Leveraging Telemedicine to Address the Impact of COVID-19
Remote care provides safety and clinical efficiency as doctors and patients look to stop the spread of novel coronavirus.
In the last two weeks, demand for telemedicine solutions has expanded rapidly with both our existing and new clinical partners in response to the escalating concern regarding COVID-19.
Hale offers an easy to use, flexible platform for clinical teams to rapidly deploy and scale a remote care solution that is fully integrated with EHR platforms including triage, messaging, video visits and health education materials via smartphones and the web.
The Hale team is standing by to enable clinical teams of all shapes and sizes to support providers in the containment of the virus while continuing to care for patients from the relative safety of their homes using telemedicine.

Utilize video visits and asynchronous tools whenever possible to limit unnecessary clinic visits, protecting patients and staff.

As the U.S. seeks to contain the spread of COVID-19, it’s critical that clinical exams and routine care that do not require a physical exam are moved to telemedicine platforms like Hale Health. Keeping uninfected patients away from potentially infected patients will work to reduce the spread of the virus and has a significant role to play in the safety and well-being of vulnerable populations.
In particular, geriatric patients with co-morbidities are most vulnerable to the virus and should actively practice social distancing in their everyday lives, including interactions with their clinical teams.

Increase operational efficiency and scale clinical resources by reducing overhead.

One of the primary issues facing the U.S. broadly, and Hale’s clinical partners specifically, is the need to increase and reserve clinical resources and capacity for an unprecedented spike in demand for services.
On average, telemedicine video visits are markedly shorter in duration than office exams and require significantly fewer staffing resources. Video visits are now reimbursable by both private payers and CMS, ensuring that providers are still paid for delivering the same care more efficiently.

Collect critical triage information efficiently using digital questionnaires to determine the best course of care.

Many of our clinical partners are managing a significant number of phone calls and messages from patients inquiring about COVID-19, including questions regarding symptoms, appropriate behaviors to take to keep themselves and their families safe and to reduce general anxiety.
Using Hale’s triage protocols, clinical teams can collect information upfront to make informed assessments and determine the most appropriate next steps. In some cases, clinicians may determine that messaging, a phone call, video visit or physical exam is the best path forward. In addition to our standard triage protocols across internal medicine, behavioral health, cardiology, OB/GYN, dermatology and pediatrics we have deployed a triage protocol for COVID-19 that can be sent to concerned patients to collect more information.

Share health education materials developed in partnership with the Mayo Clinic and the CDC regarding COVID-19.

Another way to improve communication and efficiency with patients is to share accurate and updated information regarding the virus in an easily consumable format. Using Hale’s health education materials, clinical teams can easily send patients high-quality information on the virus. This helps to reduce anxiety by limiting patients’ dependency on social networks and internet searches to learn more.
